These terms and conditions govern all work undertaken by H&M Removals (Pty) Ltd, including residential and commercial relocation, logistics, distribution, warehousing and Simply Store self-storage. By engaging our services you accept the terms set out below. A signed copy is available on request, and the full legal document can be downloaded as a PDF using the link at the bottom of this page.
All quotations are valid for 30 days from date of issue and are based on the inventory and access information supplied at the time of quoting. Significant changes to the volume, access or destination may require the quotation to be revised. A booking is only confirmed once a signed acceptance and any required deposit have been received.
Work is undertaken at the owner's risk. H&M Removals' liability is limited under our standard conditions of contract and we do not automatically insure goods in transit or storage. Insurance cover is available as an optional add-on, charged at the time of booking, and must be requested in writing. Items must be listed at their full replacement value, under-declared values may result in only partial settlement of a claim.
The following items will not be accepted under any circumstances: cash, jewellery, precious stones or metals, securities, deeds and similar documents, firearms or ammunition, perishable goods, plants and animals, flammable or explosive substances, and any item prohibited by law. Acceptance of such items is at the owner's sole risk and no liability is accepted.
Where packing is carried out by the client, no liability is accepted for damage to goods inside owner-packed containers unless caused by demonstrable negligence by our crew. Appliances must be drained, defrosted and disconnected prior to collection. Fragile items not packed by H&M Removals' packing service are conveyed at the owner's risk.
Estimated collection and delivery dates are given in good faith but are not guaranteed. Delays caused by traffic, weather, customs, building access, strikes or any other circumstance beyond our reasonable control do not entitle the client to cancel or claim damages. Where access at either end requires specialised equipment (cranes, hoists, extra labour) any additional cost will be for the client's account.
Payment in full is required before unloading at destination unless a written credit arrangement is in place. Storage charges are payable monthly in advance. Outstanding balances attract interest at the prime lending rate plus 2% per month and entitle H&M Removals to exercise a general lien over the client's goods until full settlement.
Any claim for loss or damage must be noted on the delivery note at the time of unloading and submitted in writing within 7 days of delivery. The claim form available on our Documentation page must be completed in full. Late claims will not be considered.
Cancellation more than 7 days before the booked date: deposit refunded less administration fee. Cancellation within 7 days: deposit forfeited. Cancellation on the day of collection or no-show: full cancellation fee equal to the quoted amount may be charged to cover allocated crew, vehicle and overheads.
Goods placed into storage are stored in our secure warehouse under 24-hour surveillance. Access during storage is available with reasonable written notice and may attract a handling fee. Simply Store Mobile Storage Units are sealed by the client with their own padlock, H&M Removals does not retain a key or access to the contents.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising from or in connection with these terms will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
